In respect to Veteran's Day, we shared a couple of patriotic songs and recognized our veterans in attendance. We then shared a mini sampling of our music with the congregation. What a great church. Everyone was a blessing. They even had us join them for lunch and the food was excellent! We look forward to returning next year.
Terry Webstertag:steelcitysound.org,2005:Post/59683862019-11-10T23:55:00-06:002023-12-10T11:00:53-06:002019 AMG Heritage Awards - November 9, 2019
We moved to Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte, NC this year. Here is a little recap of this year’s trip:

Tuesday, November 11, we departed Birmingham around noon headed for Monroe, North Carolina. We stopped and had dinner half way there. Most of the band was with us, but the rest would be joining us on Wednesday, Thursday and even on Friday. We arrived safely around 10:30 pm.

Wednesday, November 12, was a day of meetings and setup. Terry Webster had a board meeting to start the day off. Steel City Sound headed to lunch at 11:00 am and then to the venue for setup. Once unloaded and all setup, the band began rehearsal and sound check around 4:00 pm. We left for dinner around 6:30 pm and then called it a night.

Thursday, November 13, was an early start. The band met for breakfast early and then departed for the venue to rehearse with our late arrivals. Steel City Sound opened the showcases with Jessica Webster (debuting as an AMG artist this year) and Tammy Webster. Once these two showcases were over, Tammy began working with our guest school choirs for their day of workshops and rehearsals for the AMG Heritage Awards Show. The choirs would be backing up Chubby Checker on the “Twist” and Billy Gilman on “One Voice”. Later on that day, Steel City Sound performed their own showcase featuring “Forever” and “How Great Is Our God”. Before dinner, all of the artists in the guild were put together in groups of 2-3 and asked to perform an a Capella song. Jessica was paired up with Anna Cibbarelli and Marlana VanHoose. They performed Royals from Lorde and knocked it out of the park.

Friday, November 14, is rehearsal day! Rehearsals began with all of the performing artists for the AMG Heritage Awards Show. Long day.

Saturday, November 15, morning rehearsals and final touches to prepare for the awards show. The awards show began at 6:00 pm. We performed with so many different folks. Billy Gilman, Gloria Gaynor, Terry Gibbs, Christy Sutherland, Chubby Checker, Dee Dee Sharp, the AMG kids, just to name a few. The evening was long but well worth it. Terry Webster received the Instrumentalist of the Year award for 2014 on top of it all. It was once again a great time and we look forward to next year!
Terry Webstertag:steelcitysound.org,2005:Post/42433822014-08-23T19:15:00-05:002022-04-11T03:10:36-05:002014 Fultondale Founders Day
What a great day it was at the Fultondale Founders Day Festival. Steel City Sound opened the day with an hour full of Christian music. We performed everything from jazzy New Orleans backstreet to modern Contemporary Christian. We even did a gospel trio number! Great crowd and venue. We look forward to next time. Thanks to Rodger Godwin for getting some video for us:

Thursday, November 7, Steel City Sound made their first public debut with “Old Time Religion” and “What Love Is This?” in the artists showcase. Everyone loved it! We then split off into two groups to work with students from local schools. Tammy, Peggy and Jessica worked with the Sterling Elementary School 4th-5th grade choir students from Pineville, South Carolina while the rest of us worked with the Northwest School of the Arts Jazz Band from Charlotte, North Carolina. Both groups were sensational and pleasure to work with. We prepared them for special performances of “The Twist” for the Saturday night Heritage Awards Show. On Thursday evening, we were asked if we could chart out an arrangement for Chubby Checker so that we could perform his new single “Changes” at the Heritage Awards Show. Several musicians from Steel City Sound and the Artists Music Guild stayed up to about 1:30 AM assisting.

Friday, November 8, was a full day of rehearsals with various performing artists for the Heritage Awards Show on Saturday. We rehearsed with new and upcoming young artists like: Mikayla Lynn, Isaac Cole, Tommy Brandt II, Charee White, Hunter Cook, Abby Paskvan, and Ashley Yoder. Later in the day we rehearsed with Chubby Checker on his new single “Changes”. Wow! This chart turned out great. Chubby was such a pleasure to work with. His manager Gary Lefkowith was a great help working with the band. To close out the day, we had a late night rehearsal with Dee Dee Sharp on an arrangement of the Beatles song “The Long and Winding Road”. This was a secret performance for Saturday night’s award show in which Chubby was being presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Chubby didn’t know that Dee Dee was going to be there to present him with the award. Little did Dee Dee know that she would be receiving one as well.

Saturday, November 9, followed with more rehearsals in the morning with Dylan Arms (former American Idol), Christy Sutherland, David Meece, Jesse Cann, Richard Kiser and Chubby Checker. At 6:45 PM, the AMG Heritage Awards started. What a great night it was performing with all of these artists. We finished the night with an after party and packed up our gear for pick-up the next morning.

If you didn’t make it this year, I encourage you to put it on your calendar for next year. It gets better every year and the guild is growing. Can’t wait to see what happens next year!
Terry Webster
